What's on the Part 107 test
The FAA Remote Pilot knowledge test, officially Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG), is built from the Remote Pilot Airman Certification Standards (ACS). Here is what's on it and how it works.
The format
- 60 multiple-choice questions, three answer choices each.
- 2 hours.
- 70% to pass: 42 correct.
- Taken at a PSI testing center, which hands you the FAA testing supplement (FAA-CT-8080-2H) with the sectional chart excerpts and figures the questions refer to. Some chart questions instead show a picture cut from a current sectional chart on the screen.
The five areas and how much each counts
The ACS (FAA-S-ACS-10B) groups the knowledge into five areas of operation. The share of questions from each area:
| Area | Topics | Share of the test |
|---|---|---|
| I. Regulations | Part 107 basics, operating rules, certification, waivers, operations over people, Remote ID | 15–25% |
| II. Airspace | Airspace classes, sectional charts, authorizations, TFRs, NOTAMs | 15–25% |
| III. Weather | METARs and TAFs, weather sources, effects of weather on performance | 11–16% |
| IV. Loading and performance | Weight and balance, load factor, density altitude | 7–11% |
| V. Operations | Radio procedures, airport operations, emergencies, decision-making, physiology, maintenance | 35–45% |
Operations is the biggest share, and chart reading shows up across several areas.
Numbers worth knowing cold
- 400 ft AGL maximum altitude, or higher within 400 ft of a structure, up to 400 ft above its top.
- 100 mph (87 knots) maximum groundspeed.
- 3 statute miles minimum visibility from the control station.
- 500 ft below and 2,000 ft horizontally from clouds.
- Under 55 lb total takeoff weight.
- Report an accident with serious injury, loss of consciousness, or more than $500 of damage to other property within 10 days.
- Recurrent training every 24 calendar months.
Your test report
You see the result right away. The Airman Knowledge Test Report lists an ACS code (like UA.II.A.K1b) for each question you missed, which tells you exactly which topic to restudy if you need to retest. Retesting requires a 14-day wait.
Area shares follow the Remote Pilot ACS. Test procedures can change; the FAA's and PSI's current pages control. ClearedFor107 practice exams are weighted the same way, and every question is tagged with its ACS code.
